WatchVin (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the WatchVin mobile application (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. By using WatchVin, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve the service, and we do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and the password you choose (stored as a cryptographic hash — we never see your plain-text password).
  • Portfolio data: Watches you add to your collection, including brand, reference, purchase price, and any notes you enter.
  • Images: Photos you capture or upload for visual identification. These are processed by our AI models and are not stored beyond the duration of the identification session unless you explicitly save them.
  • Support communications: If you contact us, we collect your email and the content of your message.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: Features you use, screens you view, searches you perform, and errors that occur. This data is aggregated and used to improve the App.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, app version, and unique device identifiers (such as the iOS Identifier for Vendors / IDFV). We do not collect IDFA (the advertising identifier) without your explicit consent.
  • Log data: IP address, timestamps, and crash reports. Crash reports may include a partial stack trace but do not include your personal portfolio data.

Information we do NOT collect

  • We do not collect payment card numbers or banking information.
  • We do not access your contacts, calendar, or location unless explicitly required by a feature you opt into.
  • We do not track you across third-party apps or websites.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features
  • Process visual identification requests using our AI models
  • Display real-time and historical market pricing for watch references
  • Calculate and display portfolio valuations
  • Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
  • Send product updates or feature announcements (you may opt out at any time)
  • Diagnose technical issues and improve App performance
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your personal data to build advertising profiles or sell targeted advertising. We do not share your portfolio data with any third party except as described below.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party vendors to operate infrastructure (cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting). These vendors are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent fraud or protect the safety of any person.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all of our assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before such a transfer.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States and, in some cases, the European Union. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption at rest for databases containing personal information
  • Access controls limiting which employees can access production data
  • Regular security assessments

Data retention

We retain your account and portfolio data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and correction: You may access and update your account information at any time through the App settings.
  • Data deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing [email protected]. We will process your request within 30 days.
  • Marketing communications: You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
  • EU/UK/California residents: If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Please contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
